Hello world! My name is Alia Hanson and this blog is a project for my Technology and Education class at the University of Montana. I am a student in the MEd program, with an emphasis is Library Media Studies. I am also a full time high school English teacher in Columbia Falls, MT. As a forth year teacher, I find that teaching still take LOTS of my time. I don't think that will ever change because I am constantly looking for ways to innovate and integrate new ideas and technologies in my classroom.
I'll just put it out there - I am a technophile! I love new devices and gadgets and websites and I am always interested in ways to make them work in the classroom. I have taken several technology and education courses, and last summer I had the opportunity to attend UM's Technology Runs Through It Conference. I love meeting and networking with people who are smarter and WAY into tech because they love to share.
In this class, I hope to be exposed to more web 2.0 tools that are appropriate for the classroom, and practice creating and using wikis. I would also like to spend some time working with Moodle and its design, from an teacher's point of view, to assess whether or not it is something I can integrate into my teaching. Finally, I am hoping to expand my network of professional resources and connections.
My big news is that my husband and I are expecting our first baby this week! I am due on January 26, and at this point, I am impatiently waiting for the big day. When I am not in school or gestating, I spend my time in a variety of pursuits: skiing, hiking, biking, canoeing, yoga, reading, traveling, cooking and growing garlic and flowers are a few of my favorites.
